Becoming A Participant
To become a participant in the CIAO program one must be
-
between 17 and 20 years of age…
-
a current Wayne County resident …
-
…and have been in foster care for at least one day on or after their 17th birthday.
If a youth meets the requirements of the program they will be permitted to attend a meet & greet/ orientation. The orientation will take place at CIAO with the entire staff in attendance. The orientation takes place to inform potential CIAO participants of program service delivery and expectations.
It is explained at this time that CIAO is not an entitlement program and no one is promised a spot in the program. Youth attending the meet & greet will have an opportunity to showcase themselves, their personal goals and interests as well as their interest in the CIAO Program. The youth are informed that they must show dedication, resilience and a commitment to achieving their goals in order to be enrolled in CIAO; this attitude has to carry over while participating in the program to receive full benefit.
In years prior, many youth have showed a lot of interest in CIAO during the enrollment period, only to show little to no interest shortly after being enrolled. This happens for a number of reasons, with the most prominent being a lack of motivation and self-commitment. We at CIAO are looking to devote our time in working with individuals who are actively willing to work towards bettering themselves and their personal situations (employment, education, housing, etc.)
In addition to outlining the program and its expectations, CIAO will provide a meal for the youth attending the orientation. It is customary in CIAO’s family-style atmosphere, that we make food available at all times.
If this program sounds right for you, then come on down and gain the experience of a lifetime. We look forward to working with you and welcoming into our FAMILY!!! CIAO
