Mission
The CIAO Program focuses on providing assistance in the form of employment, training and educational-related services in order to help prepare transitional foster youth for successful lives after foster care.
Focus
Our focus is on providing resources for good citizenship, training opportunities, GED and diploma attainment and employability skills for the purpose of placing and maintaining participants in jobs and/or post secondary education.
Model
The program follows a “process model” for the delivery of services. Most participants enter the program in a state of emergency or crisis. This is mainly due to the lack of coordinated services available to them prior to leaving care. In addition, many participants do not have a single caring and positive adult involved in their lives. When a crisis presents itself this population generally does not know how to effectively handle it, nor do they have adults to go to for advice and support.
CIAO provides immediate crisis intervention services followed closely by prevention services. Only after a crisis has been dealt with can participants and staff start to work on barrier removal. At that point service planning will commence and eventually participant’s plans will move into action.
